Exterior Home Painting

The key to long lasting and safe exterior timber and metal work is protection from the elements. Properly painted and maintained structures don’t allow water, ice, bacteria or pests to enter and destroy them so its well worth having taking care of them before they erode over the years and cost you much more money down the line.

Usually some sort of repair or restoration will need to take place on these structures before the weather proofing can start such as replacing beams on decking or grinding off rust on metal railings and applying rust inhibitor.

Once the repairs are done the structure will need to be cleaned and prepared for painting. Minor holes and damage filled, loose or chipped paint removed, and thoroughly sanded if need be to create a beautiful surface ready for paint or stain.

Exterior Walls

A refreshing newly painted home exterior can add value to the property and depending on the choice of colour can even help keep the house cool in the summer.

Fungicidal wash will treat any mould and algae growth and specialist masonry paint applied properly will prevent its return and ensure walls are protected long into the future. Textured masonry paint as opposed to smooth offers better protection from the weather and is more suitable for covering tiny cracks and fissures.

Days which are overly hot, rainy or humid should be avoided in order to let the paint cure thoroughly. Any Filling should be done at the beginning and loose mortar or render repaired. After removing all dirt, debris and loose paint, the wall needs to be thoroughly washed and left to dry before painting. Its best not to power wash the wall as it can take weeks to dry.

Stabilising primer may be required depending on the age and condition of the wall and a minimum of 2 coats of quality paint.
